Plant Medicines

‘Plant medicines’ is a broad term often used to describe therapeutic medicines derived from the cannabis plant.

The medicinal application of the cannabis plant has been thoroughly documented by many cultures throughout human history, with its therapeutic properties now being utilised in Australia for the treatment of a wide range of conditions, disease states and symptoms.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a significant role in regulating all physiological systems within the body.

Composed of enzymes, receptors and endocannabinoids, the ECS is critical in maintaining mood, stress, memory, sleep, digestion, pain, inflammation, immune function, metabolism, cognition, DNA repair, movement and more. Deficiencies or dysfunctions in the ECS have been found to contribute to serious impacts across multiple areas of health.

In theory, all chronic conditions can be positively influenced by 'upregulating' the ECS. Medicines derived from the cannabis plant interact directly with this system, allowing for individualised and targeted care across a vast range of conditions.
